Whitney Turned 26

Saturday was Whitney’s birthday. Her parents invited us out to their house for a birthday dinner. In attendance, besides Rev. John, Pam, and the guest of honor were Randy and Debbie and their granddaughter, Bella; The Durhams and Mama Jane. We started out at the barn with the horses.

Whitney elected to have a birthday pie (strawberry rhubarb)

Randy and Jason liked the pie.

Nonna was very entertaining to Bella…and the rest of us.

Present time!

Jonas and Bella were very concerned about the biggest box and its contents. I think they were concerned when Whitney didn’t open it first.

It was a guitar…

CASE! Full of presents and the assurance that she could go pick out a guitar to fill the case!

Here are some things that entertain kids (besides Nintendo DS):

Bubble Wrap

Birthday bows
Big boxes

Wii, we hope you had a great birthday! <3

Autumn

I love Fall more and more every year. There’s something about the cool, crisp weather and the pretty trees and the lack of sweat…it’s good.

With Fall always comes the crazy weekend that is Holy Name School’s Fall Festival. This is a crazy, two day event that includes carnival rides, awesome food booths and lots of games that give you tickets for prizes. You take your tickets to the prize counter and trade them in for stuff. I’m in charge of the prize counter every year. Because at that school, they see me coming and they know I’m a sucker. It made for a very busy weekend, but I’m grateful for the volunteers who stepped up and my family and friends who did not abandon me in my time of need (thanks Mom, Jason and V for helping me out during the busy nightly rushes!).

With Fall also comes the Presbytery of Western Kentucky’s annual Harvest Fest. This happened on Sunday afternoon in Madisonville. A group from our church attended and our 8:30 music team helped to lead worship. That was an exciting experience because we played/sang with the early service team from Madisonville and has our first and only rehearsal together about an hour prior to the beginning of the event. It was a great time of gathering for youth and adults and I’m so glad we were able to attend!

In the midst of preparing for these events, I’ve been keeping up my regular ministry schedule and doing a lot of meetings and trainings for Girl Scouts. That’s made the last two weeks very busy! The next two weeks will be a whole lot more relaxing and I’m even planning to take some time off next week (our Fall Break). Also, hopefully I’ll get my office back in order and my email box cleaned out and lots of books read. There are several books I have to finish because I’m hearing their authors speak at the National Youth Worker’s Convention in Cincinnati at the end of October.

This morning, I am spending a little time at home. I went to South Middle this morning and worked with the ACT (All Christians Together) Club and then ran a few errands before ending up here. Blessings being what they are, the coffee was still hot and the windows are all open so the fresh air and the smell of coffee greeted me. I’m going to take some time to rest before I head back to my office for some meetings this afternoon and evening.

This morning Psalm:
Psalm 146

1Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul!

2 I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long.

3 Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help.

4 When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish.

5 Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God,

6 who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever;

7 who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free;

8 the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous.

9 The LORD watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

10 The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD!

Guitars and Guitar Hero

We had a worship team practice and guitar hero jam session at Randy and Debbie’s house tonight!
First we rehearsed for tomorrow morning.

And we met Debbie’s babies–Gershwin and Amadeus, spotted geckos (Amadeus tried to sell me some car insurance, but I wasn’t buying…)

Momma Jane!

After a delicious dinner, we broke out Guitar Hero World Tour!

Thanks, Randy and Debbie!

The Third Dimension

We watched “Coraline” tonight. They gave us these cool glasses to wear for the 3D experience.

As you can see, we all enjoyed wearing them.

Southern Illinois Bike Ride

This was the best quality I could get that the tunnel. It was so dark there.

V and Wii

Vallerie (V) and Whitney (Wii) came over last night after church. I brought the new camera and delighted everyone by taking pictures :)

(We don’t always make Wii sit on the floor)

Bonus of having friends visit you: sometimes you get a free haircut!

But of course, Jonas only thinks about one thing when V and Wii come over. Guitar Hero.

I tried the panoramic feature of the camera and created two Vs.

V and Jason each play a drumstick while Wii rocks out on guitar.

We Rock At Guitar Hero

This is Jonas. He’s really good at Guitar Hero. The rest of us basically just ride on his coattails and hope for the best.

Sam jumped up on the bed right when Jason was taking this picture.
Vallerie came over to hang out, fill Easter Eggs and play Guitar Hero.

Jonas and Sean play Dora The Explorer Uno

So Sean came over last night for dinner!

We cooked out, talked about Sean’s personal life and theology, played Sequence (Jason kept winning) and Dora the Explorer Uno (after a heated discussion about whether or not it was “all right” to play with the controversial Dora cards–Jonas wasn’t sure), and drank coffee that kept at least two of us up way too late.
