Just To Catch You Up

October 24, 2005

Well…I haven’t written in a while because I haven’t really had much that I had to write about. But I miss writing so I guess I will just catch you up so that you know what’s going on with the Durhams.

Jonas got his report card last week. He got 7 As and 2 Bs. We’re very proud of him. We had a conference with his teacher on Thursday. Jonas’ mother was there as well, and it went very smoothly. Basically, Jonas just needs to pay attention more and goof around less. At the end of every day, Jonas’ teacher gives each student a “rating” in his or her planner. They either get a star for a great job, a straight face guy for a not great, but not awful job, or a frowny face guy. For the first time since school started, Jonas got a full week of stars! He got to put a star on the chart and get a prize for his hard work.

We had a MOPS meeting at the church on Saturday morning that went well. Then I had a Brownie trip to Audubon Park for a hike. That was fun, but loud. If you want to appreciate nature, I don’t recommend that you take a hike with 16 little girls. But I think that they learned a thing or two on our hike, anyway.

Jason and I spent Saturday night eating fajitas and watching TV at home. Things were going well until Jason got a call from working, telling him that they were moving him from first to second shift. We’re not sure what to do about that yet. Jason went this morning and applied for a couple of jobs around town. 2nd shift is 1:00-9:00 p.m. If he works that shift, he’ll never see Jonas. We’re hoping something will work out. With the business he started back in April going so well, we’re blessed that all we really need his “day job” for is the benefits. Pray with us that all will work out!

Yesterday, we had a chili lunch fundraiser at church to raise money for Hurricane relief. We raised almost $1000, which is awesome. We served chili, hotdogs, chips and cookies. We als invited a neighboring church to join us. It was a lot of work for the people who put it together but they did a great job šŸ™‚

Last night, Jason and I played Yahtzee. I beat him three games in a row.

And now it’s Monday and I have some work to do!

    DEER HUNTING EQUIPMENT?!?!??!

Now THAT has to be the funniest thing ever! That was just what I needed in a day otherwise filled with rather monotonous studying of the way your B cells produce millions of different antibodies by way of non-homologous end joining.

DEER HUNTING EQUIPMENT! Now I wonder why he targeted your Blog???????? Good ole’ Rod :o)

I don’t think Becky will ever live this one down!!!

But back to your actual post and not the comment concerning deer hunting equipment…

Go Jonas! That’s great! The more stars the better!

And I sure wish I knew what a MOPS meeting was! I would like to implement that in our church, simply because it sounds silly (although I am sure the MOPS meeting doesn’t really have any sort of silly connotations in reality).

Oh, and out of curiosity, what do you and Jason watch when you watch TV together? Just wondering, since now that I am married I have become an avid viewer of soccer matches, which I never really was before. The only thing I absolutely CANNOT stand to watch that Niklas loves is these political debate programs that he thinks are simply wonderful. They make me gag.

Oh, and when Niklas and I play games together it is either a computer soccer/hockey game or a game like Trivial Pursuit, only all the questions have to do with Sweden. Let me just tell you how fun THAT is!

But I’m not bitter. When we visit my parents they always want to play Taboo, which is quite hard for someone who isn’t a native English speaker. Cranium is another family favorite, but Niklas can’t quite understand why anyone would want to play a game using Play-Doh.

    Have a nice week!

  4. Katie–I have no idea where the deer hunting comment came from. LOL. But since you commented on it, now I can’t delete it.

MOPS = Mothers of Pre-Schoolers. It’s a group of moms who meet at the church for Bible Study and creative activities on the 3rd Saturday of each month.

Jason doesn’t watch sports, so we usually find a sitcom or a movie or something like that. We like Everybody Loves Raymond and that’s almost always on somewhere. We also like documentaries. He also repeatedly turns the sattellite to the “OLD SCHOOL RAP” channel. Every other day it’s “Classic Disco” and you can bet that I always pray that it’s a disco day so I don’t have to listen to “Old School Rap.” It’s the songs of his youth and he likes to turn the volume way up and tell me all about the history of each song. Do I care? No, but it’s not like he can hear me complain.

I love games like Trivial Pursuit, Cranium and Taboo! Jason doesn’t care so much for those as he does for card games like Fill or Bust and Sequence.

We actually used our Cranium Game at First Priority this morning (Bible Study before School at South Middle School). We played Scupterades because we were talking about how God is like a sculpter or potter. Fun!

  5. Becky! Thanks for your help and support! I just needed someone to hold my hand through this process. (If someone read that they’d think I was going through a major trial!) I think this will lead you to “Hennyfair’s Haven!” Hm, maybe I should change it to “Hennyfair’s Heavenly Haven.” Yeah, by the time you make it there it’ll probably be changed. šŸ™‚
