I went to my very last appointment with my surgeon and my very last session with my physical therapist today! They worked me extra hard–bike, stepper, this crazy balancing activity that I was horrible at doing, and a few other exercises we’ve been working on. I’m supposed to continue these exercises and put ice on my ankle in the evenings, but I don’t have to go back for any more therapy or follow up (unless I have trouble).
Dr. Alvey, my surgeon, came to see me, examined my foot, told me how well I was doing and then he asked me to remind him what my job was.
Me: I’m the youth director at the Presbyterian church in Henderson.
Doc: So, you’re not on your feet all day necessarily.
Me: No, not necessarily…
Doc: Well, then, I don’t see any reason you can’t return to work!
Doc: Sure. I think you’ll be fine. What’s wrong?
Me: Well, you see, I kind of went back to work three weeks ago. I thought it was okay…
Doc: Well, look at you! You seem fine! So I was right!
Oh, goodness. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t know that I wasn’t supposed to go back to work until today because I would have really been conflicted about breaking the rules for SO LONG.
I’m grateful for an easy recovery and that I’m done with physical therapy!
