Trot

November 25, 2010

It’s Thanksgiving and when we’re in Henderson, there’s only one place to spend Thanksgiving morning–

The annual Turkey Trot 5K!

Our church has sponsored this race every year for ten years. In the beginning, the entry fee was a canned good. Later, free will donations were taken up for local assistance and our church’s Dental Program.

This year, the recipient is the Brain Injury Adventure Camp. The BIAC is a place where people with brain injuries can go and experience things like ropes courses, horseback riding, and general camp fun in an environment geared to meet individual needs. They are building it on a piece of property that used to belong to the church–the Hoffman Farm. I’m really proud of our church’s partnership with this project.

I won’t be doing much trotting, as I’ve been “hired” to take the pictures on the course. I’ll start my day on a ladder at Second and Main and do my best to get the perfect shot of police escorts/runners/horses/skaters/dogs/walkers (we have a lot of divisions). And then I have other locations I’m supposed to get to to take pictures. So, actually, I probably will be trotting all over downtown. I just won’t qualify for a trophy.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
