Last week, five other community youth ministers and I finalized plans to take donuts to high school teachers and staff on the day after the last day of school for the 2011-12 school year. Our plan was to celebrate the end of a school year.
Then, yesterday, a fellow staff member (dance coach Michelle Lewis Cotter) died tragically in the early morning hours.
So the donuts became comfort food and a way for us to say, “We’re here. We care. We’re praying.”
I suppose we are people of faith who regularly pray that God would turn ordinary things like donuts into something extraordinary.
(That’s Jason Gibbons from First Assembly of God helping me graffiti the boxes before we take them.)
