I may have mentioned that our Youth Group is headed to Nags Head, NC over Fall Break for a retreat on the beach! It’s going to be awesome!
I’m working on putting the devotional book together for that week. We will have quiet times in the morning where each youth and adult is responsible for his or her own devotional time. We will have small group devotionals in the evening where an adult will lead a group of 3 or 4 youth through the devotional time. The theme of the retreat is “Who Do You Say I Am?” (or hoodooyusaim?). We will be answering that question with these topics:
Tuesday: The Bread of Life
Wednesday: The Lamb of God
Thursday: The Lion of Judah
Friday: The Lord
Did you know that the #1 answer given by teenagers when they are asked to describe Jesus is “Nice?” I’d like to expand their Jesus vocabulary–at least in the small group of teenagers that I can influence.
I will have different Scripture passages to read and study each day–one for the morning QT and one for the evening small group. I have my own ideas about which passages to use, but I wanted to ask you, dear blog reader, what passages you would use for each of these topics. I know that some of you are quite profound in your Biblical scholarship and would love your input as it might spark a more necessary passage than the ones I have already considered.
For example, I was kind of torn on when to do “Emmanuel.” Should I do it on Monday or on Friday? I decided on Monday because I think I may use Matthew 1:18-25 and John 1:1-18 as that day’s passages and focus on God putting on skin and coming to earth. But my other thought was to use it on Friday and focus on Jesus words that he will be with us to the end of the age and the presence of the Holy Spirit with us.
I’m praying for God’s wisdom, but I know that you may be the ones to share that wisdom with me.
OH–and one thing to remember: The youth going on this particular trip range from 7th grade to 10th grade.
